Are you searching for a job that brings meaning to your life? Do you want to see your work directly impact the lives of other people?
ABOUT US & THE JOB:
The Luis F. Hess Law Office is a fast-paced greater Houston-area law firm. We help immigrants and their families using our knowledge of both immigration and civil law. We specialize in traversing situations where both of those practice areas intersect.
The work at Hess Law Office has an immediate impact on the lives of people. At times, we are what stands between our client’s American Dream and whether he or she is removed from the United States. Therefore, if you are interested in this job, then know that you will be dealing with highly intensive situations where your work will impact the lives of our clients and those that love them.
We are seeking an Attorney who has a passion for immigration and civil litigation to help take our growing law firm to the next level. We are not your typical law firm. We are poised for aggressive growth, and we’re looking for an attorney who can hit the ground running to give our clients outstanding representation. You need to have strong research and writing skills and know your way around a courtroom.
You must have a “Can do” attitude and determination that is not required of most jobs. If this is you, then please continue reading.
Take ownership of a client's case – federal immigration proceedings and state court civil cases
Conduct client meetings and recommend strategies
Delegate work to paralegals and legal assistants and monitor their work
Full-service immigration services: family immigration, employment immigration, deportation defense
Civil litigation cases: discovery, pleadings, and motions; pretrial hearings, motion hearings, and trials.
Skills and experience are important and valued, but your personality, character, intelligence, and integrity are also extremely important considerations. We need an attorney who already has litigation experience, but attitude is just as important.
High-maintenance, humorless, self-entitled, or self-important individuals will not succeed in this position and need not apply.
If you think the Constitution is a technicality, please don’t apply.
If you think filling out a form is the best thing you can do for a client, do not apply.
If we can’t count on you to show up in court on time, don’t apply.
If you have any distaste for representing immigrants, don’t apply.
We are growing, and you will be called upon to wear many hats. We need someone who does not think that the occasional need to scan your own documents is “beneath you."
YOU MUST SPEAK FLUENT SPANISH TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.
HOW TO APPLY:
If this exciting opportunity appeals to you, we look forward to reviewing your resume. Please follow these instructions. APPLICATIONS THAT DO NOT FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. Prepare a cover letter that explains what you believe are the 3 most important qualities that must be possessed by an attorney working with immigrants finding their way through the American justice system. As a closing sentence please write, “I have read the instructions contained in the job posting and have followed the instructions.” Do not send your resume’ through the online application system. Email your cover letter, resume, your salary requirements, and a recent substantive writing sample that demonstrates your performance as an advocate in PDF format to Jennifer@LuisHessLaw.com and Luis@LuisHessLaw.
