Texas Southern University, Thurgood Marshall School of Law seeks an Assistant Director to support the Office of Career & Professional Development. The assistant director will conduct individual and group career counseling and professional development training for law students and alumni; develop and present programs to educate students on legal industry expectations, hiring trends, and assist students with goal setting and formulating a career plan.
This position also requires the assistant director to track, maintain, analyze and organize graduate employment statistics, job placements, and other important employment related information for both internal and external statistical purposes.
Additionally, the assistant director will represent the law school at local, regional, and national events to increase visibility of the school and diversify employment opportunities for students and alumni.
Duties will include but may not be limited to the following:
Advise and counsel law students on career goals and job searches in all aspects of the practice of law as well as non-legal or non-traditional areas in which students may utilize their law degree.
Assist students and alumni with drafting application materials, interview preparation, and networking strategies.
Design, present, and implement professional development programs to educate students on the legal profession and industry standards.
Track, maintain, and compile statistical data including but not limited to graduate employment data, student job placements, and programming data for submission to organizations to which the school reports.
Represent the Office of Career and Professional Development and Thurgood Marshall School of Law at recruiting events, conferences, professional bar organization meetings, and professional development events.
Plan workshops, panel presentations, and create materials to promote Office of Career and Professional Development events.
Juris Doctor Required
At least 2 years of practical legal experience.
Successful candidates will also have:
Develop programs utilizing Power Point or other presentation software;
Utilize excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills to deliver information to constituents including students, alumni, faculty, staff, employers and other members of the legal community;
Manage multiple tasks and projects effectively;
Work efficiently as a member of a small team and maximize available resources;
Work effectively with little to no supervision as required when team members are out of the office or unavailable;
Identify and resolve routine problems that may arise in a timely manner.
