Reports to: Chief Business Development & Marketing Officer
Serves as the Business-Development Manager for assigned lawyers in Austin; provides strategic and tactical support to assigned lawyers and collaborates with marketing and business-development team members and other firm business professionals to ensure the execution of the business-development plans and their alignment with firm-wide business-development priorities and practices.
Provide strategic input and direction to assigned lawyers for the development and effective implementation of short and long-term business development initiatives.
Foster the pursuit of new and expanded client relationships.
Help lawyers develop best-practice-based marketing and proposal materials.
Track and report on success of business development efforts.
Serve as a liaison between assigned lawyers and marketing team.
Organize office-related marketing efforts.
Market and Business Intelligence
Stay current on market and business trends and the competitive landscape for assigned practice areas. Work with practice group leaders and individual lawyers to develop strategies for pursuit of new and expanded business opportunities taking into account market trends and competitive environment.
Business Development Strategy and Planning
Work with assigned practice group leaders and individual attorneys to develop strategic group and individual business development plans.
Coordinate, track, and report on success of practice group and individual lawyer business development efforts.
Work with practice group leaders for assigned practice group to plan and facilitate practice group meetings, including annual strategy and planning sessions.
Facilitate cross-practice group business development activities.
Develop budgets for and manage individual attorney sponsorships, including tracking and maximizing sponsorship outcomes.
Assist assigned lawyers in preparation for and follow-up on client visits, proposals, and meetings.
Work with communications team, assigned lawyers, and practice group leaders to develop and update key messages and marketing and proposal materials, brochures, and web content incorporating those messages.
Manage compilation of transaction descriptions for assigned lawyers for use in proposals, on the website, and in league tables. Track client permissions for use of those descriptions.
Work with firm publicist to facilitate media placements for assigned lawyers.
Provide strategic input to Events Manager on business development aspects of client social functions involving assigned lawyers.
Marketing Management and Leadership
Work with Austin office Business Development Partner-Chair to plan and create agendas and related materials for marketing programs, All Attorney Meetings, and Austin Business Development committee meetings.
Ensure a timely integration of new attorneys into the firm. Assist with development of publicity plans for new arrivals, scheduling new attorney photos, and obtaining approval of bios and publicity materials. Perform attorney orientation for Austin lateral attorneys.
Work with Austin Business Development Committee to develop budgets for ticketed events and provide oversight of the ticket distribution process.
Approve expenses related to business development activities of assigned attorneys.
Report on office activities.
Assist with other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing or business or related academic preparation
Prior legal training or legal marketing experience preferred
Strong customer service orientation
Positive attitude, approachable, courteous and respectful
Motivated self-starter with exceptional organizational skills and creativity, able to juggle multiple projects with tight deadlines
Outstanding oral and written communication and editing skills
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish credibility with attorneys and staff
Well-developed research and analytical skills
Software proficiency in word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, database management, etc. Able to acquire new technical skills easily
Flexibility and adaptability in a competitive business and professional environment
Must work well under pressure, be a problem-solver, and a team player
