A well-established immigration law office in downtown Seattle is seeking a full-time legal assistant/paralegal with a minimum of 2 years legal experience.
Candidate will be responsible for carrying out duties in a legal setting under the guidance of attorneys, including preparing legal applications, briefs, and other documents, gathering evidence, conducting client interviews, and managing immigration cases from start to finish.
Fluency in both English and Spanish with strong written and verbal communication skills is REQUIRED (Skills will be tested at time of interview);
Must pay strong attention to detail;
Must be a quick learner;
Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks;
Must be able to handle confidential information and sensitive material and situations;
Must work well under pressure and be able to meet multiple tight deadlines;
Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite;
Must have a professional demeanor and work well with others;
Must demonstrate ability to work in a high stress and emotional environment, including working with difficult clients and diverse personalities;
Previous experience as a legal assistant or paralegal in an immigration setting is preferred (particularly in removal defense or family petitions).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
Assist attorneys in preparing for hearings and court proceedings.
Manage a large caseload consisting of affirmative immigration and/or removal defense cases;
Responsible for gathering documents and other information for court and government submissions;
Work closely with clients, support staff, and attorneys;
Responsible for drafting and preparing legal correspondence, client declarations, and other documents;
Coordinate with experts and witnesses;
Conduct research in support of clients’ immigration claims, including country conditions;
Responsible for staying up-to-date on EOIR and USCIS practices and filing instructions;
Responsible for maintaining well-organized physical and online case files;
Manage all incoming and outgoing correspondence for his/her assigned cases and workspace;
Attend weekly staff meetings.
Minimum education requirement is a 4 year college degree.
Minimum of 2 year legal experience
Bilingual (English and Spanish)
