								<description>Nashville, Tennessee,  The Professional Development Manager manages associate staffing, training, and feedback collection. The Manager will work closely with the Director of Professional Development and practice groups to implement programs that meet both firm-level and practice group needs. 
 Responsibilities 
 
 Manage and enhance the matter assignment system.
 
 Develop relationships with staffing partner in each group as well as partners and senior associates to garner buy-in and ensure the success of the system. 
 Monitor client, partner, and matter expectations; track workload; and be mindful of associates&#8217; strengths and goals. 
 Strategically match associates and staff attorneys to work opportunities with an eye toward achieving an equitable distribution of assignments consistent with client/partner needs, associate goals, and the firm&#8217;s diversity initiative. Coaching will be involved throughout. 
 As opportunities for secondments and practicums opportunities arise, coordinate, manage logistics and agreements, prepare and train the secondee and solicit feedback from all parties. 
 Work with the legal project management, pricing, and business development teams as overlap arises. 
 
 
 Support feedback and individual development initiatives.
 
 Oversee the firm&#8217;s feedback system through which we solicit and catalogue performance feedback multiple times per year. 
 Support the Director of Professional Development and Retention in the annual evaluations process. 
 Support the Director of Professional Development and Retention in offering individual PD sessions and coaching for associates. 
 Manage and enhance the firm&#8217;s efforts to support struggling performers. 
 
 
 Participate in and develop training initiatives.
 
 Support the Director of Professional Development and Retention in the development and execution of substantive legal and professional skills training for mid-level and senior associates in each practice group. 
 Work with the Attorney Recruiting Manager to develop a summer associate training curriculum. 
 Oversee first-year associate orientation and introductory substantive legal curriculum for junior associates in each practice group. 
 Oversee associate on-boarding and integration. 
 
 
 Support the Director of Professional Development and Retention in facilitating the Associates Committee. 
 Work with the Director of Professional Development and Retention on firm-wide initiatives designed to enhance associate development and retention. 
 Facilitate and foster effective communication within the practice groups and administrative teams. 
 Other duties as assigned.

 &#xa0; Requirements 
 
 Bachelor&#39;s degree from a four-year college or university. 
 Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school preferred. 
 Three to five years of professional development experience. 
 Understanding of attorney professional development and the nuances of developing and retaining lawyers in various practice groups and various stages in their careers. 
 Ability to work both independently and to be proactive. Highly organized and able to respond to multiple priorities and meet multiple deadlines. 
 Demonstrated ability to maintain the strict confidentiality of the firm&#8217;s internal and personnel affairs and information. 
 Must have strong client-service orientation, diplomacy, and the ability to work productively with groups from senior partners to new associates. 
 Strong written and oral communications skills, and must be able to convey ideas in a manner that is convincing to others. 
 Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a professional and collegial manner with a variety of attorneys and professional staff, and the professional presence and demeanor to represent the firm.
