Summary Our law firm is seeking an experienced immigration attorney with established credentials in legal research, writing, and client interaction.  Applicants should be able to demonstrate substantial experience with written appellate advocacy at the Immigration Court, BIA, Circuit Court, and District Court levels.  As an of counsel or part-time attorney, you will be responsible for managing an appellate caseload. You will bring a number of skills to this job, including (a) strong written and oral advocacy; (b) effective client and caseload management; (c) disciplined adherence to best practices; and (d) commitment to exercising leadership and improving the performance of our team. What You’ll Do Manage a caseload of immigration appeals at the Board of Immigration Appeals and U.S. Court of Appeals (almost exclusively Ninth Circuit), and civil immigration litigation matters in the U.S District Court (almost exclusively in the District of Arizona). Board of Immigration Appeals :  Draft notices of appeal, appellate briefs, motions to reopen, and any other appropriate pleadings. U.S. Courts of Appeal: Draft petitions for review, motions for stay, replies to OIL opposition for stay, responses to Department of Justice, Office of Immigration Litigation (OIL) motions to dismiss petitions for review, opening briefs on appeal and replies to OIL answering briefs, and any other appropriate motions.  The attorney will also engage and negotiate with OIL attorneys, advocate for clients in Circuit Court mediations, and prepare for and conduct oral argument when necessary. U.S. District Courts : Draft petitions for writs of habeas corpus, mandamus, and error coram nobis; original and amended complaints in civil immigration actions; applications for temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions; all relevant motions and replies; and interlocutory appeals to the U.S. Courts of Appeal.  Immigration Courts :  Periodically assist the firm’s other attorneys with legal research and writing assignments, including but not limited to motions to terminate, motions to suppress, motions in limine, motions to reconsider, pre-hearing briefs, and other responses and replies as needed. Effectively communicate with other attorneys and experts in the field—locally and nationally—to leverage as much knowledge and advice as possible for the benefit of our clients. Padilla consults: Analyze the immigration consequences of criminal convictions by providing “Padilla consults” to criminal defense attorneys. Perform consultations for potential clients who are interested in the law firm’s services.
