The Legal Clinic (TLC) is seeking a full-time staff immigration attorney for our O'ahu-based work, starting in March 2023. TLC’s mission is to ensure justice for low-income immigrants and migrants in Hawai'i through high-quality immigration legal services, education, and advocacy.
Reporting to TLC’s senior staff attorney, the immigration staff attorney is primarily responsible for the representation of low-income immigrant clients in a variety of immigration law matters.
The attorney must be licensed to practice law and in good standing in any state, and able to represent clients before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR), and other related entities. The attorney will also be responsible for providing education, training, and advocacy to a wide variety of groups on immigration-related matters; engaging with local and national partners on an ongoing basis; and maintaining client records and assisting with data reporting.
The position requires a minimum of one year of legal practice, prior knowledge of immigration law, and a strong commitment to public interest legal service and the empowerment of immigrant communities. Additional prerequisites include strong verbal and written communication skills, cultural sensitivity, flexibility, independence, strong attention to detail, and resourcefulness. Desired but not required: prior public interest law or nonprofit experience and Hawai'i State Bar membership.
