The Nebraska Commission on Public Advocacy has an opening for a staff attorney beginning on or around July 1, 2023, and is expected to have one or more additional openings in the coming months. These positions involve trying murder and other serious violent felony offenses throughout the state and handling such cases on direct appeal and in post-conviction proceedings. Qualified applicants must: 1) Be admitted to practice in Nebraska; 2) Be experienced and active in criminal defense with no less than three years experience in the litigation of criminal defense cases (consideration will be given to outstanding applicants with prosecution or civil litigation experience); 3) Have experience as lead or co-counsel in at least five jury trials in serious and/or complex cases tried to completion. Salary is commensurate with experience, with an expected minimum annual salary of $100,000. The State of Nebraska also provides outstanding benefits.
