About International Rescue Committee
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises and helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people affected by humanitarian crises—including the climate crisis—to survive, recover and rebuild their lives. Founded at the call of Albert Einstein in 1933, the IRC is now at work in over 40 crisis-affected countries as well as communities throughout Europe and the Americas. We deliver lasting impact by providing health care, helping children learn, and empowering individuals and communities to become self-reliant, always seeking to address the inequalities facing women and girls.
In 2021 the IRC and partners reached over 31.5 million people in countries affected by crisis. As part of this work, IRC:
•Supported 3,607 health facilities
•Provided 6,085,969 o...utpatient consultations
•Treated 155,528 children under 5 for severe acute malnutrition
•Admitted 429,256 people for nutrition services
•Built or rehabilitated water supplies serving 2,700,629 people
•Reached 1,243,527 people with cash assistance
•Reached 1,240,379 people through gender-based violence awareness raising activities.
•Provided specialized support to 33,426 women survivors of violence
•Supported 98,128 children in IRC safe spaces and other protection programs
•Enrolled 370,771 children and youth in learning programs
•Served nearly 35,000 people across 25 US cities with asylum and protection programs.
•Assisted 2,697 people to become new U.S. citizens.
The IRC is committed to a culture of bold leadership, innovation in all aspects of its work, creative partnerships and, most crucially, accountability to those it serves. The IRC is a tireless advocate for the most vulnerable.
The IRC Way
The IRC Way describes the four core values of Integrity, Service, Accountability and Equality, and the undertakings that flow from them:
Integrity – We are open, honest and trustworthy in dealing with clients, partners, co-workers, donors, funders and the communities we affect.
Accountability - We are accountable—individually and collectively—for our behaviors, actions and results.
Service - We are responsible to the people we serve and the donors who enable our service.
Equality - We strive for equal outcomes for all clients and colleagues by promoting equitable access to opportunities and services.
The aim of our code of conduct is to ensure that we carry out our work following the ethical and moral principles that support our humanitarian calling. Upholding this code is a responsibility shared by all involved in delivering on the IRC’s mission. It applies to all IRC directors, officers, employees, interns, volunteers, incentive staff and partners who work on behalf of the IRC.
